Josh Porter Obituary, Death – Cairns Golf Club Mourns 21-Year-Old Team Member With Olympic Dreams

The Cairns Golf Club community is mourning the loss of Josh Porter, affectionately known as JP, who has died at the age of 21. His passing has left family, friends, colleagues and members of the wider golfing community heartbroken.

Josh was a valued member of the Cairns Golf Club team, where he worked as a Pro Shop and Cart Attendant. Colleagues remembered him as a polite, gentle and hardworking young man whose friendly nature and willingness to help made him a pleasure to work with.

In a tribute shared by the club, Josh was described as a beautiful soul who had his whole future ahead of him. Although he was not someone who sought attention, he earned the respect and appreciation of those around him through his dedication, reliability and quiet approach to his responsibilities.

He was known for taking his work seriously and carrying out his duties with a dependable, no-fuss attitude. His presence made a meaningful difference to the team, and his colleagues will remember the kindness and respect he showed throughout his time at the club.

Away from work, Josh had a passion for squash and an ambitious sporting dream. He hoped to represent Papua New Guinea at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. That goal reflected his determination and enthusiasm for sport, as well as the potential he had to achieve great things in the years ahead.

Tragically, Josh will not have the opportunity to fulfil that Olympic ambition. His death at just 21 has left those who knew him reflecting on the future he had ahead of him and the many opportunities he will never get to experience.
